November 2015 - ELMARK PLUS in the US (Automation Fair Chicago)

On 17-19.11.  2015 we participated at the 2015 Automation Fair event in Chicago.

There was a Lufthansa's strike that -- as my friend likes to say "Luftwaffe" :) -- forced us to book the flight with SwissAir instead ... but eventually we arrived in New York City safely.

Life is not only about work and so in just a few days we saw some of the most famous New York places, like, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Wall Street, Broadway, Central Park; we went on a boat ride around Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, watch the NBA game at Madison Square Garden,  and we also visited a Czech restaurant in Bronx.

There is a good number of skyscrapers in New York and since we'd seen more than enough :) we decided to rent a car in New York and went on a road trip across New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York State to Ontario, Canada. We enjoyed the trip thoroughly except for the problem with the European payment cards at American gas stations.  Fortunately we had some cash with us. :) After a few petty problems on the United States-Canada border they finally let us go and we ended up staying at Niagara Falls for two days. Stunnig! A Must-see experience!

After the rest at Niagara Falls and a slightly adventurous border crossing we would drive across New York State, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana to the largest city of Illinois - Chicago.

We, however, had a lot of work to do in Chicago. At the Automation Fair Event we have established contacts with executives of Rockwell Automation. From their broad portfolio, we were had a great interest in Allen Bradley medium-voltage AC drivers of the PowerFlex family.  It is a reliable, sophisticated, elegant solution. Our company will certainly use them for speed control of AC drives in the near future  here in Europe.

In addition to the work we managed to look at some of the attractions of this beautiful city (in my opinion Chicago is a more interesting city than New York) on the shores of Lake Michigan - the University of Chicago, Millennium Park, Willis Tower, Adler Planetarium  etc.

The fact that nothing is as simple as it looks, on the day of our scheduled departure they canceled the flights due to the fact that Chicago suffered the largest snowfall in 120 years.  As a result we were forced to stay one more day there. Despite the terrible weather conditions we managed to depart from the US airport and arrive in Europe the next day.
